The Challenge

Two brick wall ends at a townhome community were failing: one leaning out of plumb and held together by a tie-down strap, the other partially collapsed after a car hit it. Both had to be rebuilt plumb, blended to the existing wall lines, and — the hard part — built with brick that matched walls laid decades ago in an oversized format no supplier stocks off the shelf.

Demo revealed the real story, as it usually does: an undersized footing under one wall and original wall ties so thin and rusted they had effectively stopped working.

Our Approach

Matched the unmatchable brick.

We measured and sampled the existing brick and ran it past three regional suppliers before committing to a special-order match — and salvaged, cleaned, and re-laid original bricks where they'd be most visible.

Fixed the foundation first.

The undersized footing was extended with a doweled, formed concrete pour before a single brick went back up. The other wall's footing was verified sound and reused.

Ties that will outlast the mortar.

The rebuilt sections were anchored to the existing walls with stainless steel helical ties every six courses — a mechanical connection designed to outlast the rusted straps it replaced.

No-surprises scope management.

When the work uncovered four garage pillars needing the same rebuild, the added scope was documented and approved before we proceeded — no surprises on the invoice.

Finished and protected.

Mortar washes went on the rebuilt pillars, joints were crack-chased and caulked, and all the brickwork was pressure washed and treated with a silane penetrating sealer — water protection that doesn't change the look of the brick.
